Local History Groups

We have two groups: our Monday group, led by Sheila Wilson, meets on alternate weeks, as does our Friday group but they also take a bus trip out once a month to places of interest. This year they have enjoyed free entry to local National Trust properties including Wallington, Cragside, Gibside and Cherryburn.

Both groups are very popular but if you are interested in joining one of them please let us know as we could put your name on a waiting list. It is a fun way to learn, make friends and also to get some fresh air and exercise.

Cinema Memories

This digital storytelling project, run in conjunction with the Tyneside Cinema, took groups of local residents and helped them to script their own personal cinema stories which were then recorded. Digital stories were created on computers with photographs and images taken from participants' personal memorabilia and photographs, and archives collected by the Tyneside Cinema. The resulting films are uniquely personal stories and reflections on cinema-going in the heyday of the silver screen.
